What people ask before their first laser appointment.
Which device is right for my skin?
That is what the assessment decides, and it is genuinely not obvious from the outside. These treatments overlap in what they claim and differ considerably in what they do — some target pigment, some target vessels, some remodel collagen at depth. Choosing by brand name rather than by mechanism is how people end up paying for the wrong one.
Are these treatments safe for darker skin tones?
Some are and some are not, and any studio that says all of them are is one to leave. Lasers that target pigment carry real risk in deeper skin tones. Aerolase and radiofrequency-based treatments are far safer across the full range. We assess skin type properly and will tell you which of these are off the table for you.
When in the year should I book these?
Most of them from autumn to early spring. Anything that resurfaces leaves skin markedly more light-sensitive, and at this latitude the UV index sits in the low single figures from roughly October to March. Aerolase is the notable exception — it does not resurface, so it works year-round.
Which device is right for my skin?
That is what the Alma IQ scan answers. It photographs what is happening below the surface — pigment, redness, sun damage, hydration — so the choice comes from data rather than a guess. Two people with the same complaint often need different devices.
Can I have laser treatment on darker skin?
Yes, with the right device. Aerolase treats every skin tone including deeper tones that many lasers cannot handle safely, because the pulse is short enough not to overheat surrounding tissue. IPL is the one to be careful with on deeper skin.
How much downtime is there?
It varies by device and that is usually the deciding factor. ClearLift has no visible downtime at all. SkinPen leaves you pink for a day or two. Vivace is the strongest of these and needs a clear weekend. We plan around your calendar rather than the other way round.
How many sessions will I need?
Most resurfacing works as a series of three, spaced about a month apart, because collagen responds over weeks rather than days. Laser hair removal is six to eight. We tell you the realistic number at consultation rather than after the first session.
