ARKYN: what people ask.
What does medical-grade actually mean?
It is not a regulated term, which is worth knowing before anyone uses it at you. In practice it describes formulations at concentrations that do measurable work (15% L-ascorbic acid rather than a trace of it, 1% encapsulated retinol rather than a retinyl ester) sold through a provider rather than off a shelf. Judge it on the actives listed, not on the phrase.
Where should I start if I have never used any of this?
A cleanser, a moisturiser and sunscreen, and nothing else for a fortnight. That is genuinely the answer. Once skin is calm you add one active at a time (usually vitamin C in the morning, then retinol at night a few weeks later) because adding three at once means you cannot tell which one caused the reaction.
Can I use the retinol pads and the exfoliating pads together?
Not on the same night. Both are exfoliating and stacking them is the most common way people damage their barrier. Alternate (retinol on some nights, the acid pads on others), and if skin gets tight or stings, drop back to two or three nights a week rather than pushing on.
Is any of it unsuitable during pregnancy or breastfeeding?
Retinol is not used in pregnancy, and that is the one to stop: it is in the 1% Retinol Treatment Pads and the Anti-Aging Eye Cream. Tell us you are pregnant or breastfeeding and we will go through what you are using rather than guessing from a list. The same conversation happens before any treatment.
How is ARKYN different from the other lines you carry?
It is the studio's own, created by our founder. The lines we dispense are still stocked and still recommended where they are the better answer: Colorescience for sunscreen, Face Reality for acne protocols, Epicutis for a compromised barrier.
Do members pay less?
Yes, for in-stock products bought at the studio: Illuminator VIP takes 15% off, and the wallet balance spends on products as readily as on treatment. The discount does not apply to online orders.
