IPL Photofacial in Neenah, WI
Excellent on sun damage. Wrong for melasma.
Intense pulsed light for brown spots, freckling and redness. Treats face, neck, décolleté or the backs of the hands. Not suitable on recently tanned skin.

What it does
IPL Photofacial at Illumatox.
IPL targets colour. Brown spots absorb the light and lift to the surface over the following week, and broken capillaries absorb it and collapse, which is why one treatment addresses two problems that look unrelated.
The brown spots get darker before they go. That is the treatment working rather than going wrong, and they flake away over roughly seven to ten days.
IPL targets pigment and vessels with broad-spectrum light. On sun-induced brown spots the result is often dramatic: they darken, then flake away over about a week.
It is the wrong instinct for true melasma, where heat can provoke the pigment rather than clear it. Telling those two apart is what the Alma IQ scan is for, and it is why we scan before booking.
Most people book a series of three. Recently tanned skin has to wait.

Common questions
What people ask about ipl photofacial.
How much does ipl photofacial cost in Neenah?
IPL Photofacial is $450, or $400 for members at our Neenah studio. Every price is published on our pricing page. Nothing is quote-on-request.
Why did my spots get darker?
Because that is what success looks like at day two. The pigment absorbs the energy, rises toward the surface and darkens into what people describe as coffee grounds, then flakes off over the following week. It is the most common reason people call us worried, and it is the expected result rather than a complication.
Is IPL right for melasma?
Usually not, and this is the most important thing on this page. IPL works by heat, and heat is one of melasma's triggers. It can clear sun damage brilliantly and make true melasma worse. The two look similar on the surface, which is why we scan before treating rather than assuming. If it turns out to be melasma, peels and pigment-targeted skincare are the safer route.
How many treatments will I need?
Three is typical for sun damage, spaced about a month apart, with a maintenance session once or twice a year afterwards. Someone with a lot of accumulated damage may want more; someone with a few discrete spots may be finished after two.
Can I have IPL in summer?
We would rather you did not. Recently treated skin is more light-sensitive and fresh sun exposure both undoes the work and raises the risk of an uneven result. Autumn through early spring is the sensible window here, which at this latitude means roughly late September to April.
Can I have IPL for melasma?
Usually not, and it is the most important caveat on this page. Melasma is heat-sensitive, and IPL can make it worse rather than better. We scan first to establish whether we are looking at sun damage or melasma, because they look similar and want opposite treatments.
What happens to the brown spots?
They darken first (noticeably, like coffee grounds) then lift and flake away over roughly a week. That darkening is the treatment working, not a reaction.
