Double Chin Treatment in Neenah, WI
It is rarely about weight, and it is rarely one thing.
Submental fullness is stubbornly independent of body size — plenty of very lean people have it and always have. What produces it is usually some combination of fat, a jawline that has lost definition, and skin that no longer holds a clean line.

What is actually happening
Fat, angle and skin — usually all three.
The fat under the chin sits in its own compartment and is largely genetic. It responds poorly to weight loss because the body does not draw evenly from every store, which is why people who have lost thirty pounds often still have exactly the same profile.
The second factor is the angle. A jawline that has lost projection, or a chin that was always slightly recessed, produces a soft transition between face and neck regardless of how much fat is present.
The third is skin. As laxity increases, the tissue under the chin stops holding a defined line and drapes instead. That is a different problem again, and it is the one that limits what any fat treatment can achieve.
Posture and age both change how much of it you see. The version in a photograph taken from below is not the version anyone else sees — worth remembering before deciding what needs treating.
What we can do about it
Three options, and they treat different components.
The right plan depends on which of the three factors is dominant. Treating fat when the actual problem is a recessed chin produces almost no visible change.
- 01Kybella
For the fat, permanently
Deoxycholic acid destroys the fat cells it contacts, and once they are gone they do not return. Two to four sessions, six weeks apart, with significant swelling for several days after each. It does nothing for a recessed chin or for lax skin.
- 02Laser Lipo
For fat reduction without the injections
Diode laser energy targeting fat cells across a treated area, with no needles and no downtime. More comfortable than Kybella and generally a gentler change per session. Sold as a course, not a single appointment.
- 03Facial Filler — jawline and chin
For the angle, which is often the real issue
Adding projection to the chin and definition along the jaw creates a clean line between face and neck, and it frequently does more for a profile than fat reduction does. It adds structure; it does not remove anything.
What we would recommend
The question we ask first.
Look at yourself in profile rather than head-on. If there is a clear pad of fullness under the chin and the jawline itself is well defined, that is a fat problem and Kybella or laser lipo will change it.
If the jawline is soft and the chin sits back, no amount of fat reduction will produce the line you are after. Structure comes first, and in a meaningful number of cases filler along the jaw is the entire treatment.
If the skin under the chin is loose and crepey, we would treat that expectation honestly. Reducing fat under lax skin can make the laxity more obvious, and adding RF tightening to the plan — or accepting a modest result — is the sensible route.

What to expect
Sessions, swelling and timelines.
- Kybella
- Two to four sessions six weeks apart. Expect substantial swelling for three to five days after each — this is expected, not a complication, but it is very visible and worth booking around.
- Laser lipo
- A course of sessions with no downtime at all, results building gradually over eight to twelve weeks as the body clears the treated fat cells.
- Permanence
- Fat cells destroyed by either treatment do not come back. Remaining cells can still enlarge with significant weight gain, so the result holds best alongside a stable weight.
- Cost
- Kybella is priced per vial and laser lipo per body area, because the number needed depends on how much fullness is present. Both figures are published.
Kybella is $575 per vial, or $550 per vial for members at our Neenah studio. It is the treatment most plans for this concern are built around, and every other figure on this page’s options is published too.
Common questions
What people ask about a double chin.
Is mine fat or is it my jawline?
It is genuinely often the jawline, and getting this wrong is expensive. A recessed chin or a weak jaw angle produces the same profile as submental fat, and dissolving fat that was not the problem leaves the area looking hollow rather than defined. The two want opposite treatments — one removes, one adds — which is why we assess the profile rather than the complaint.
Does Kybella permanently remove a double chin?
The fat cells it destroys are permanently gone — they do not regenerate. What can still change is the size of the fat cells that remain, so significant weight gain can partially reverse the visible result. For most people who maintain a stable weight, the treatment is a one-time course.
How much swelling should I expect after Kybella?
A lot, and it is worth planning for. The area is typically noticeably swollen for three to five days and can stay slightly full for a couple of weeks. It is the mechanism working rather than a problem, but it is visible enough that most people book it before a quiet week rather than before an event.
Will losing weight get rid of my double chin?
Sometimes, but far less reliably than people expect. Submental fat is largely genetically determined and the body does not draw evenly from every store during weight loss. Plenty of lean people have persistent submental fullness, which is precisely why targeted treatment exists for it.
Is Kybella or laser lipo better under the chin?
Kybella is more aggressive per session and permanently destroys the cells it touches, at the cost of real swelling afterwards. Laser lipo is comfortable, needle-free and has no downtime, but changes more gradually across a course. We choose based on how much fullness there is and how much downtime you can accept.
What if my problem is a weak jawline rather than fat?
Then fat treatment is the wrong tool and we will say so. A recessed chin or an undefined jaw produces a soft neck-to-face transition no matter how little fat is present. Filler that adds projection to the chin and definition along the jaw usually does more for a profile than anything that removes tissue.

Look at it in profile first.
It is the single most useful thing you can do before booking, and it usually changes which treatment turns out to be the right one.
